Scott Foster

During the 2019-2020 season when Foster is the main referee, the home team win percentage is actually below 50% at 47% with a loss differential over three points. Total points are ove 226 and fouls against both home and away are virtually even. Foster only officiated two games as part of the crew with both home teams winning with large differential of over 16 points, total score averaging over 21 with 40 fouls per game and nearly 60% of fouls against the road team.

Scott Foster is disliked by many NBA players, for not taking abuse from star players and doling out technicals like candy. Paul Pierce broke it down on ESPN: “Every referee has their own personality. He’s just not one you mess with. It shouldn’t be like that because when you look at it, it’s stars — Harden, DeRozan, Chris Paul that he’s getting into it with. You gotta be able to listen to the players, have that relationship. I don’t feel like Scott has that relationship amongst the superstars in the league … It was hard for me to even say something to him because it was like I know that Scott is going to have a quick trigger with the technicals. So, if you’re gonna say something, you gotta keep it short and keep it moving. Because if you sit there and elaborate on a call, you’re gonna get a technical or he’ll throw you out like we’ve seen. But the players know this.” The Houston Rockets Rockets in particular are sensitive to Foster’s officiating. The Rockets are 0-9 in games officiated by Foster since 2017 and all three of their home playoff losses in 2018 were officiated by Foster. This has many Houston Rockets players and fans feeling Foster has singled them and their stars out personally.

Scott Foster has officiated over 25 seasons and refereed 187 playoff games, including 19 NBA Finals games. He worked the 1996 Europe Tour in Germany and Spain as well as the 2010 NBA All-Star Game in Arlington, Texas. Foster was a part of Game 7 of the 2010 NBA Finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics. Foster worked in the High School, CBA, and College ranks before the NBA.
