Tendencies & Game Impact

During the 2019-2020 season when Corbin was the main referee the home team won over 57% jof the time with a total over 222 points with an average of 41 fouls per game. Fouls against the home and road teams were nearly identical. Corbin only officiated two games as a crew member with home and away splitting wins with an 8 point differential, 219 points total per game and an even amount of fouls between home and away.

Controversies

On April 28, 2009, in Game 5 of the NBA Eastern Conference Playoffs with two seconds of overtime left, the Chicago Bulls trailed the Boston Celtics by two points in a crucial Game 5. Rajon Rondo hammered Brad Miller in the face as he jumped for an open layup. While Corbin made the foul call, he did not assess a flagrant 1 or 2 despite the egregious hit to Miller’s head. This would have resulted in two free-throws and possession for the Chicago Bulls. Instead, a standard foul was called, Miller missed both free throws and the Celtics would take the Bulls to overtime and win.

Sean Corbin has officiated 79 playoff games over 24 years as an NBA official. He also worked the 2007 NBA All-Star Game in Las Vegas and the 1999 Japan Games in Tokyo. Corbin officiated at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. His most memorable NBA assignment was a triple-overtime game between the Boston Celtics and the Vancouver Grizzlies on Feb. 17, 1999. Corbin officiated in the CBA as well as in the High School and collegiate ranks before joining the NBA.
